For Keeps For Keeps DVD Review Rated PG Suggested ages-7th grade and up For Keeps is a movie that was released in the late 80's. The film stars Molly Ringwald and Randall Batinkoff as a young high school couple, Stan and Darcy. Darcy and Stan are in love. They are high school seniors. Darcy is planning to go away to college to study journalism and Stan is planning on studing architecture at Cal State. Their future plans are thrown for a loop when Darcy's period is late. At first Darcy and Stan keep things to themselves. When their parents find out over Thanksgiving dinner, Darcy's mother decides that Darcy will be having an abortion while Stan's parents would prefer an adoption take place. Darcy plans to go ahead with the abortion but changes her mind. Darcy and Stan eventually tell their parents that they plan to raise the baby on their own. The two teens move out of their parents house into a small apartment and struggle to make their relationship work and to keep things going with a small child. Things become extremely strained when they realize that their college plans have been shattered. Stan starts drinking and hanging out more and things just get really tense. There utilities get cut off because they can't afford to pay the bills. This is a really great film to use in a teen pregnancy unit because it really conveys the struggles that a young couple will go through when they decide to embark on parenthood when they don't have the emotional or financial tools required for the task. In the end, after a brief break up, Darcy and Stan reunite and they find away to continue their education and parent their young daughter. For Keeps is a hard hitting drama that is guaranteed to spark many a class discussion.
