Process

Step 1.

Page one of the paper will answer the following questions:

1. What is a DNA test?

2. How is a DNA test performed?

3. Where can you get a DNA test administered in your area?

4. Do the father, mother and child all have to be tested to determine paternity?

5. How much will the test cost?

Visit the resources page for links to be used to answer these questions.

Step 2.

Page two of the paper will consist of a narrative describing your personal feelings of how you would feel if your boyfriend asked you to have a DNA test performed on your new baby. Male students should write their narrative from the perspective of why or why not they would ask their girlfriend for a DNA paternity test based on the scenario provided or their own personal experiences. Would they follow their own feelings or fold to pressure from family and friends? This part of the paper should be in paragraph format.

Suggested angles-
Would you stay with your boyfriend if he asked for a DNA test or would you want to break up?

Would your feelings be hurt if your boyfriend asked for a DNA test?

Would you agree to have the test performed?

Suggested angles for male students-
Why would you ask your girlfriend for a DNA test?

If you questioned your child's paternity would you seek a test or live with the doubt and love the child regardless?

These are just suggested topics to explore for the narrative portion of this assignment.

Be prepared to read the narrative out loud. Reading of the narratives will be followed by a class discussion.
